Christmas Celebrations: A Lesson in Eagerness
Dear friends, today I’d like to share a story from my past, a tale that taught me a valuable lesson about eagerness. It’s a story set during the festive season, a time of joy, love, and anticipation. So, grab a cup of hot cocoa, settle in, and let’s journey back together.
The Christmas of ’72
It was the Christmas of ’72, a year that was particularly memorable for me. I was a young lad, brimming with excitement for the holiday season. The Christmas tree was adorned with twinkling lights, and the air was filled with the sweet aroma of baked goods. I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of Santa Claus, and more importantly, the gifts he would bring.
The Lesson in Eagerness
My eagerness, however, got the better of me. I couldn’t wait for Christmas morning to arrive. So, one night, I decided to sneak a peek at my presents. I tiptoed into the living room, careful not to wake anyone. I found my gift, carefully wrapped and placed under the tree. The temptation was too great, and I unwrapped it.
What I found inside was a beautiful toy train, something I had wished for all year. But instead of feeling joy, I felt a pang of guilt. I had spoiled the surprise for myself, and in doing so, I had taken away a part of the magic that makes Christmas so special.
Understanding Eagerness
That Christmas taught me a valuable lesson about eagerness. Eagerness, in its essence, is not a bad thing. It’s a sign of enthusiasm, of anticipation. But when eagerness turns into impatience, it can rob us of the joy of anticipation and the magic of the moment.
From that day forward, I learned to channel my eagerness into preparation and participation, rather than rushing to the end. I learned to enjoy the journey, not just the destination. And that, my friends, is a lesson I’ve carried with me throughout my life.
Embrace the Journey
So, as we approach this festive season, I encourage you to embrace the journey. Enjoy the anticipation, the preparation, and the celebration. Don’t rush to the end, but savor each moment. Remember, it’s not just about the destination, but the journey that leads us there.
May your holidays be filled with joy, love, and anticipation. And may you find the magic in each moment.
Until next time,
Kev
