My First Plane Ride: A Lesson in Affability
Dear friends, today I’d like to share a tale from my youth, a tale that taught me the value of affability. This lesson unfolded during my first plane ride, an experience that was as enlightening as it was exhilarating.
The Journey Begins
It was the summer of ’62, and I was about to embark on my first ever flight. The destination? The city of angels, Los Angeles. I was a young lad, filled with a mix of excitement and trepidation. Little did I know, this journey would teach me a life lesson that I’d carry with me to this day.
A Stranger’s Kindness
As I boarded the plane, I was greeted by a gentleman who was to be my seatmate. He was a seasoned traveler, his face etched with lines that told tales of countless journeys. He noticed my nervousness and, with a warm smile, extended his hand in greeting.
“First flight?” he asked. I nodded, and he chuckled, “Don’t worry, kid. It’s a lot like life. A bit bumpy at times, but the view from the top is worth it.”
The Lesson Learned
Throughout the flight, this kind stranger shared stories of his travels, offered me advice, and reassured me during the turbulence. His affability put me at ease, transforming what could have been a nerve-wracking experience into a pleasant journey.
As we disembarked, he patted my shoulder and said, “Remember, kid, a little kindness goes a long way. You never know whose day you might brighten.”
Carrying the Lesson Forward
That flight was the first of many, but the lesson I learned that day has stayed with me. Affability, the quality of being friendly and approachable, can turn strangers into friends, fear into comfort, and ordinary moments into memorable ones.
So, dear reader, I encourage you to carry this lesson with you. Be kind, be friendly, be approachable. You never know whose life you might touch with your affability.
Until next time,
Kev
