Generosity: A Lesson from an Easter Egg Hunt
Dear friends, today I want to share a story with you, a tale from my past that taught me a valuable lesson about generosity. It’s a story about an Easter Egg Hunt, but it’s also about so much more. So, grab a cup of tea, settle in, and let me take you back in time.
The Easter Egg Hunt
It was a bright and sunny Easter Sunday, many years ago. The local community had organized an Easter Egg Hunt for the children. The park was filled with laughter and excitement as the little ones scampered around, their eyes wide with anticipation.
Among the children was my grandson, Billy. He was a competitive little fellow, always eager to win. He had his heart set on finding the most eggs and was determined to leave no stone unturned.
The Unexpected Turn
As the hunt progressed, Billy was indeed in the lead, his basket brimming with colorful eggs. But then, something unexpected happened. Billy noticed a little girl sitting alone on a bench, her basket empty. She was the daughter of a family who had recently moved into town and didn’t know many people yet.
Billy looked at his basket, then at the girl, and then back at his basket. I could see the wheels turning in his head. Then, without a word, he walked over to the girl and tipped half of his eggs into her basket. The girl’s face lit up, and they spent the rest of the day hunting eggs together, their laughter echoing through the park.
The Lesson of Generosity
That day, Billy didn’t win the competition. But he won something far more valuable: the joy of sharing, the warmth of making someone else happy, the lesson of generosity.
Generosity, my friends, isn’t about giving away what we don’t need. It’s about sharing what we have, even when it’s not easy. It’s about making sacrifices for the happiness of others. And most importantly, it’s about understanding that the true measure of our wealth is not what we keep, but what we give away.
So, as we go about our lives, let’s remember to be generous. Let’s share our time, our resources, and our kindness with those around us. Because in the end, it’s not the eggs we collect, but the love we spread that truly counts.
Until next time, remember to be kind, be generous, and always spread love.
Yours in wisdom,
Kev
