Embracing Simplicity: A Lesson from the First Day of School
Dear friends, today I want to share a story with you. A story that takes us back to a time of innocence and discovery, a time when life was simpler. This is a story about my first day of school and the profound lesson it taught me about the beauty of simplicity.
The First Day of School
It was a bright, sunny morning. The kind of morning that fills a young boy’s heart with a sense of adventure. I remember standing at the entrance of my new school, my tiny hand clutching my mother’s, my heart pounding with a mix of excitement and fear.
As I stepped into the classroom, I was overwhelmed by the sight of the colorful posters, the rows of desks, and the sea of unfamiliar faces. It was a world far removed from the simplicity of my home, and it was intimidating.
The Lesson
Seeing my apprehension, my teacher, a kind woman with a warm smile, walked over to me. She took my hand and led me to a small desk at the front of the room. On the desk was a single, blank sheet of paper and a box of crayons.
“Start with one color,” she said, “and see where it takes you.”
And so, I picked up a blue crayon and began to draw. As I focused on the task at hand, the chaos of the classroom faded away. I was no longer overwhelmed. I was simply a boy with a crayon, expressing himself on a blank canvas.
The Power of Simplicity
That day, I learned a valuable lesson. When faced with complexity and chaos, we often feel overwhelmed and lost. But when we simplify, when we focus on one thing at a time, we regain control. We find clarity. We find peace.
Life, like that classroom, can be overwhelming. But remember, you always have the power to simplify. To focus on one thing at a time. To find your blue crayon and create your own path.
So, my dear friends, embrace simplicity. It is not about having less. It is about making room for more: more joy, more peace, more life.
Until next time, remember to keep it simple.
Kev
