Retirement and the Sense of Justice: A Lesson from the Past
Dear friends, today I’d like to share a story from my past, a story that taught me a valuable lesson about the sense of justice. It’s a story that took place during the twilight years of my career, at the brink of my retirement.
The Unfair Treatment
As I was nearing my retirement, I noticed a change in the way my colleagues treated me. They seemed to think that because I was retiring, my opinions and contributions were less valuable. This was not only unfair, but it also hurt me deeply. I had spent my entire life dedicated to my work, and to be dismissed so easily was a bitter pill to swallow.
Standing Up for Justice
But instead of letting this injustice get the better of me, I decided to stand up for myself. I approached my superiors and expressed my concerns. I reminded them of my years of service and the value I still brought to the team. I didn’t do this out of pride or ego, but out of a sense of justice. I believed, and still do, that everyone deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, regardless of their age or position in life.
The Outcome
My superiors listened and acknowledged their mistake. They apologized and promised to treat me with the respect I deserved. From that day forward, I was treated fairly and my contributions were valued. I retired with a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, knowing that I had stood up for what was right.
The Lesson
Friends, the lesson here is simple yet profound. Stand up for what you believe is right, even if it means going against the grain. Don’t let anyone belittle you or treat you unfairly. Remember, your worth is not determined by your age or your position, but by your actions and your sense of justice.
As we navigate through life, let’s strive to treat everyone with fairness and respect. Let’s stand up for justice, not just for ourselves, but for everyone around us. After all, a world where justice prevails is a world worth living in.
Until next time, remember to stand tall and stay strong. Life is a journey, and every step is a lesson. Embrace it, learn from it, and grow.
Yours in wisdom,
Kev
