Lessons from a Baby Shower: The Power of Obligingness
Dear friends, today I’d like to share a story from my past that taught me a valuable lesson about obligingness. It’s a tale centered around an event that many of you might be familiar with – a baby shower.
The Unexpected Invitation
Many moons ago, I received an invitation to a baby shower. Now, as a grizzled old man, I was a bit taken aback. Baby showers, in my experience, were usually gatherings for the ladies. But times were changing, and I was invited to celebrate the impending arrival of my dear friend’s first grandchild.
The Power of Obligingness
Despite my initial hesitation, I decided to oblige. I thought to myself, “Kev, this is an opportunity to show support and share in the joy of a new life.” And so, I found myself in a room filled with pastel decorations, games, and a mountain of gifts for the little one.
What I didn’t realize at the time was how much my presence meant to the expecting parents. They were touched that I had taken the time to be there, to share in their joy and anticipation. My obligingness, it turned out, had a profound impact.
The Lesson Learned
That day, I learned a valuable lesson about the power of obligingness. It’s not just about doing something because it’s expected of you. It’s about showing up for others, even when it’s outside of your comfort zone. It’s about being there for the people you care about, in the moments that matter to them.
So, my friends, I encourage you to embrace obligingness. You never know how much your presence can mean to someone else. And who knows, you might just find yourself enjoying a baby shower more than you ever thought possible.
Until next time,
Kev
