Thanksgiving Dinner: A Lesson in Calm
Dear friends, today I want to share a story from my past, a story that taught me the value of calm in the face of chaos. It was a typical Thanksgiving dinner, but the lessons learned were anything but ordinary.
The Chaos of Thanksgiving
It was a chilly November evening, the year was 1985. Our family was bustling around the kitchen, each person with their own task. The turkey was roasting, the potatoes were boiling, and the pies were cooling on the window sill. The air was filled with laughter, chatter, and the occasional argument – a typical family gathering.
But amidst the hustle and bustle, I noticed my grandmother, sitting quietly in her rocking chair, peeling apples for the pie. Amidst the chaos, she was the picture of calm.
The Eye of the Storm
As the evening wore on, the chaos increased. The turkey was overcooked, the potatoes were undercooked, and to top it all off, the dog managed to swipe a pie from the window sill. But through it all, my grandmother remained calm, a beacon of tranquility in the storm of Thanksgiving dinner.
Seeing her calm demeanor, I asked her, “Grandma, how do you stay so calm amidst all this chaos?” She looked at me, a twinkle in her eye, and said, “My dear, life is full of chaos. But it’s how we react to it that defines us.”
The Lesson Learned
That Thanksgiving, I learned a valuable lesson. In life, chaos is inevitable. Things will go wrong, plans will fail, and pies will be stolen by mischievous dogs. But through it all, we have the choice to remain calm, to be the eye of the storm.
So, my dear friends, as we approach this Thanksgiving, I encourage you to embrace the chaos, but remember to remain calm. For it’s not the chaos that defines us, but how we react to it.
Until next time, remember to stay calm and carry on.
Yours in wisdom,
Kev
