Riding Faithfulness: Life Lessons from My First Time Surfing

First Wave: A Lesson in Faithfulness

Dear friends, today I’d like to share a story from my youth, a tale that taught me the true meaning of faithfulness. It’s a story about the first time I ever tried surfing, and the lessons I learned from the ocean that day.

The Call of the Ocean

It was the summer of ’65, and I was a young lad of 15. My family had taken a trip to the beautiful beaches of California. The ocean, with its vast expanse and rhythmic waves, had always fascinated me. I decided to try my hand at surfing, drawn by the allure of riding the waves.

The First Attempt

With a borrowed surfboard under my arm, I waded into the water. The waves were intimidating, but I was determined. I hopped onto the board, only to be thrown off by the very first wave. I surfaced, gasping for breath, my pride a little bruised. But I didn’t give up. I got back on the board, and again, the ocean tossed me aside.

The Lesson

After countless attempts and failures, I was ready to admit defeat. But then, I remembered a piece of advice my father had once given me: “Be faithful to your commitments, even when they’re challenging“. I realized that I had made a commitment to myself to ride these waves. I had to be faithful to that commitment.

With renewed determination, I got back on the board. This time, I didn’t fight the waves; I moved with them. And then, it happened. I was standing, riding my first wave. The feeling was exhilarating, a testament to my faithfulness.

Final Thoughts

That day, the ocean taught me a valuable lesson about faithfulness. It showed me that being faithful isn’t about never falling; it’s about getting back up, again and again, no matter how many times you’re knocked down. It’s about staying true to your commitments, even when they’re hard.

So, my dear friends, I urge you to be faithful in all aspects of your life. Be it your relationships, your work, or your personal goals, stay true to your commitments. Remember, the waves of life may knock you down, but it’s your faithfulness that will allow you to ride them.

Until next time,

Kev
