Lessons in Valor: A Dance Class Story
Dear friends, today I want to share a tale from my past, a story of courage, of stepping out of comfort zones, and most importantly, of valor. This is a story that takes place not on a battlefield, but in a dance class. Yes, you read that right, a dance class.
The First Step
It was the summer of ’65, and I was a young man, full of vim and vigor. One day, I saw a flyer for a local dance class. Intrigued, I decided to give it a shot. I was no Fred Astaire, but I thought, “Why not?”
Walking into that dance studio for the first time was one of the most nerve-wracking experiences of my life. The room was filled with people who seemed to glide across the floor with the grace of swans. I, on the other hand, felt like a duck out of water.
The Challenge
As the weeks went by, I struggled. I stepped on toes, missed beats, and tripped over my own feet more times than I care to admit. But I didn’t give up. I kept going, kept trying, kept dancing. And that, my friends, is where the true valor lies.
The Lesson
Valor isn’t just about being brave in the face of danger. It’s about having the courage to try something new, to risk failure, to persevere even when things are tough. It’s about dancing, even when you don’t know the steps.
So, the next time you’re faced with a challenge, remember the dance class. Remember the feeling of stepping onto that dance floor for the first time. Remember the struggle, the perseverance, the courage. And then, my friends, dance. Dance with all your heart. Because that is true valor.
Until next time,
Kev
