Seeing Beyond the Obvious: An Easter Egg Hunt Lesson
Good day, dear reader. Today, I want to share a tale from my past that taught me a valuable lesson about vision. Not the kind that involves your eyes, but the kind that involves your mind and heart. It’s a story about an Easter Egg Hunt, but it’s also a story about seeing beyond the obvious and finding the hidden treasures in life.
The Easter Egg Hunt
Many moons ago, when my grandchildren were just knee-high to a grasshopper, we had a tradition of hosting an Easter Egg Hunt in our backyard. The children would scamper around, their eyes wide with excitement, as they searched for the brightly colored eggs hidden in the grass, behind rocks, and in the branches of trees.
One year, my youngest grandson, Billy, was having a tough time. He was smaller than the other kids and not as quick on his feet. He watched in disappointment as the other children found egg after egg, while his basket remained empty.
The Lesson
Seeing his downcast face, I pulled him aside and knelt down to his level. “Billy,” I said, “you’re looking, but you’re not really seeing. You’re focusing on the obvious places, but sometimes, the best treasures are hidden where you least expect them.”
With a puzzled look, Billy asked, “What do you mean, Grandpa?”
“Well,” I replied, “you’re looking on the ground, in the grass, and in the trees because that’s where everyone else is looking. But what about the places no one else is thinking about? Like under the porch, or in the mailbox, or behind the garden gnome?”
Billy’s eyes lit up with understanding. He took off, not to join the frenzy of children, but to explore the overlooked corners of the yard. And sure enough, he started finding eggs. Not just any eggs, but the special ones I’d hidden, the ones filled with extra treats.
Applying the Lesson
Life, dear reader, is much like that Easter Egg Hunt. Many of us spend our time looking for happiness and success in the obvious places because that’s where everyone else is looking. But often, the greatest rewards are found when we dare to look beyond the obvious, to explore new ideas, to take the path less traveled.
So, I encourage you today to look beyond the obvious. Don’t just look, but truly see. You might be surprised at the treasures you find.
Until next time, remember: The world is full of hidden gems, waiting for those with the vision to find them.
Yours in wisdom,
Kev
